About This File

***INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS*** If the auto-installer fails; unzip the zipfile into a new folder and name it "audio". Put it on a clean USB drive. If you want the custom boot sound, extract the boot.ogg into the root folder. IMPORTANT; this mix has a gazillion sound files and needs to properly cache before starting a game. After the installation is complete, let the game cache (turn on machine but don't start a game) for atleast 5 minutes the first time you play.

This project uses Shoend's and Wools's work as a base to build on, huge credit to them for their hard work. The main objective was to replace all legacy sound effects (or at least as many as possible). This makes game progression more dynamic and rewarding, bringing back a great deal of the feel you get with newer pins. Clocking in at over 200 hours of editing, here's a short list of what's new on top of the base mix.

  • Around 200 new sound effects and voice lines.
  • About 20 new music tracks and snippets from the original soundtrack, making the game feel fresh again.
  • Pretty much every existing sound effect and callout has been adjusted and filtered with AI to clean them from background noise and music. Some music tracks have been altered to be more dynamic.
  • Big effort into making mode progression and multiballs more dynamic and rewarding.

Gone are the days of the horny elk and stupid bounce VUK sound effects. Destroy the Ring has become a truly psychological challenge and the Witch King has finally become the true horror he deserves to be. We now have proper callouts when draining a ball, tilt warning sounds instead of the flimsy beeps, and if you would tilt out, there are now several new insulting sounds and voice lines, making you feel more ashamed than ever.

Enjoy!

Do you have a config file you can share with me? I'm having some difficulty making this mix sound really good on my new pinsound system.

Hello! What kind of problem(s) are you experiencing?

Phenomenal mix. This completely transforms the game to a cinematic experience. While the whole thing is amazing, my absolute favorites are the callouts at the beginning of The Two Towers and Return of the King Multiballs. "To Warrrr!!!" in TTT gets me so pumped. The roar of the soldiers after the initial war cry in RoTK sends chills down my spine.

As good as this is, there is small room for improvement. The "Ring Multiball" callout is inappropriately placed throughout much of the game. Most egregious is when the "To Warrrr!!" callout at the beginning of TTT multiball gets cut short by "Ring Multiball". That really takes you out of the experience. There are a few other inappropriate callouts that I can't remember, but none as bad as the one listed above.

Regardless of the minor issues (and one major one explained above), I absolutely love this mix. Well done!

Response from the author:

Hello! Thank you for the awesome review! I have actually never encountered this bug where the game randomly shouts Ring Multiball where it shouldn't. It has happened maybe once or twice with random sound effects when I've done a clean install and not let it cache long enough. This could be a bug with Pinsound or maybe your USB memory. My suggestion is that you update your pinsound to the latest firmware, try another USB memory (preferably with higher specs) and a clean installation. Let the game cache (turn on the machine on but don't start a game) for at least five minutes. Get back to me if the error still occurs. I will see if there is anything I can do. Probably there's not, because the Pinsound editor is very limited in functions. Best regards.

This is such a great mix and really adds to LOTR.  Thank you for your work!  I think this one is my favorite of all the mixes.
